Environmental Contaminants, Pathways, and Effects
Tables 1-3 below delineate briefly the primary pathways and effects of
various environmental pollutants. Food contaminants are very similar to
drinking water contaminants. There is also a tendency of plants and animals
to concentrate toxins. For example, radioactive strontium and mercury
concentrate in milk and tissues of fish.
